You have found the Detective Pulps. These were very popular. There were stories about police, detectives, spies, and masked heroes. Radio shows like the Shadow had dedicated companion pulp magazines to go along with the radio broadcasts. Other radio characters like Nick Carter and Casey, Crime Photographer would have special featured stories in the detective or mystery pulps. It was common at the end of the radio show to remind the listener to buy the latest issue.
Like the Horror pulps women were often portrayed as the damsel in distress. However, women were also portrayed as the seductress or the gangster lady.
